Office of Public School Choice - Single-Gender Education
Single-gender education is teaching boys and girls the same high standards within different classrooms. Federal regulations issued in October 2006 authorized the use of single-gender classrooms, programs, and schools within districts as a way to meet the educational needs of its students. Currently, there are over 200 schools within South Carolina that offer some form of single-gender program. Single-gender programs exist in elementary, middle, and high schools.
