Program Description
The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics School, STEMS, is a district magnet program located at Westview Middle School, and is open through application to all rising sixth grade students. STEMS is designed to develop and refine the students' scienctific and mathematical achievemnt while allowing the students to practice skills in exploaratory classes. STEMS includes Gateway to Technology, a middle school component which builds on the distrist's engineering curriculum , Project Lead the Way. STEMS offers a rigorous gifted and talented curriculum supported by activities designed to help all students explore math, science, and technology.
Program Mission/Goals
The mission of STEMS is to provide an integrated curriculum in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in whcih the community of learners engages in critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making experiences that support learning at a higher level of complexity and depth.
Program Attendance Requirements
The STEMS program operates as a school within a school and provides all academic and related arts instruction daily from 7:50 - 3:05. Students must meet state attendance requirements.
Area of Academic or Career Focus
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics concepts and skills are integrated throughout all aspects of the students' daily experiences.
